Alan Lawless is the Executive Director of the Non-Insured Benefits Branch, Insurance Division at Manitoba Health Seniors, and Long-Term Care. He was previously the Director of Formulary Management and Exception Drug Status Unit in the same branch.
The Non-Insured Benefits Branch provides departmental leadership in the planning, management, and administration of sustainable publicly funded insurance programs for prescription drugs, ancillary services and devices, and financial support and related residential charges for residents of licensed personal care homes. The Branch also provides policy direction and recommendations in the development of eligibility criteria, service improvements, legislative changes, and related benefit plan design to support government goals and priorities in the delivery of health care, and ensuring these are aligned with the overall goals of the health system plan.
Prior to joining the Non-Insured Benefits Branch, Alan worked as a Regional Pharmacy Program Manager at the Southeast Tribal Council, where he oversaw the establishment of the first regional Tribal Council administered pharmacy program in Manitoba as part of health transformation for Indigenous communities in the province. During this time, he also served as the Clinical Consultant Pharmacist for the Jordan’s Principle National Appeals Secretariat.
Alan was the owner operator of a 24-hour Shoppers Drug Mart for 14 years and throughout his career has participated on professional committees, advisory groups including the Pharmacists Manitoba Board of Directors. Alan achieved his BSc. In Pharmacy, degree in 2000. He holds many designations for expanded pharmacist’s scope of practice and has vast experience in pharmacy service delivery and policy development gained through organizational, retail, and institutional sectors.
